In our most recent reporting period (April 1 – June 30, 2019), the OIPC received 63 privacy breach reports from 23 public bodies under the ATIPPA, 2015. This is a decrease from the 75 breaches reported in the in the previous reporting period; however, the number of public bodies increased from 21 to 23.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today toured Kraken Robotics to view the progress of Seavision, an innovative technology that gives high resolution video, imaging and 3D laser modelling of stagnant subsea assets such as mooring chains.

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today announced more than $1 million for three research projects. The projects were approved through the Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre and will help strengthen the province’s workforce.

The Honourable Brian Warr, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and the Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, are congratulating more than 200 educators on completing the Autism Spectrum Disorder and Behavioural Interventions on-line training program. Since 2015, more than 1,500 individuals from the K-12 school system have completed this ASD training.

As part of the Provincial Government’s commitment to modernizing procurement, a contract has been awarded to Merx Network Inc. to implement and manage an electronic procurement solution for e-bidding. E-bidding will help save time and money by eliminating the need to drop off a paper copy to the procurement offices within Tendering and Contracts or the Public Procurement Agency.
