Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will attend meetings of the Atlantic Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers (ACFAM) in Cardigan, Prince Edward Island, tomorrow (Thursday, October 16). The meetings will take place at the Rodd Brudenell Resort, located at 86 Dewars Lane.

On behalf of the Provincial Government, the Honourable Tony Cornect, Minister of Service NL, will attend an event for sponsors of SportFest on Thursday, October 16, at Techniplex, 39 Churchill Avenue (Pleasantville). A reception begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by tour of SportFest attractions and displays at 4:30 p.m.

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, is in China this week to join a larger Canadian delegation in a trade promotion and investment attraction mission focused on the mining and minerals exploration sector.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is offering homeowners the opportunity to be involved in a pilot project that evaluates the effect of real-time energy data in participating homes.

Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

Elections Newfoundland and Labrador wishes to notify electors that the Conception Bay South district Returning Office is open for Special Ballot voting. The office is located in Sobeys Square Plaza at 350 Conception Bay Highway. Special Ballot voting is also available at Elections Newfoundland and Labrador’s head office at 39 Hallett Crescent in St. John’s.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation: Sport Newfoundland and Labrador

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will hold regional identification camps for the 2017 Ladies’ and Men’s Canada Games programs. These camps will be held at Exploits Valley High, Grand Falls-Windsor, on October 26, 2014. The ladies camp will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The men’s camp will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. These camps are open to athletes from the region born in 2000 and 2001.

Service NL

The Honourable Tony Cornect, Minister of Service NL, will officially open the new building of the Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union tomorrow (Wednesday, October 15). The building is located at 885 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl. Minister Cornect will speak at 6:00 p.m.

Justice

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will attend a Federal, Provincial and Territorial Meeting of Ministers responsible for Justice and Public Safety, which is taking place October 15-17 in Banff, Alberta.

Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

A writ of election has been issued for the district of Conception Bay South by Newfoundland and Labrador’s Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Victor Powers. The by-election will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, will attend meetings of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for seniors, October 15-16 at the Delta Hotel in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation

With the support of the Provincial Government, the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is once again welcoming the international film community to St. John’s. Funding of $46,772 has been provided to the 2014 festival for its new Interactive Industry Film Forum. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will participate in the festival’s opening gala event tonight (Tuesday, October 14) at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.

Justice

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that approximately $27,000 is being provided for the purchase of firefighting equipment in the District of Port de Grave.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced that the Department of Public Safety is being renamed the Department of Justice and Public Safety.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will speak at the opening of the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival on Tuesday, October 14, at 8:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John’s.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Banquet tomorrow (Saturday, October 11). The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook and Premier Davis will speak at approximately 7:05 p.m.
