Two Burin Peninsula-based businesses are better positioned to improve their operations as a result of $488,333 in funding from the Provincial Government. Fortune Head Eco Friends Inc. and Grand Bank Seafood’s Inc. will receive funding to assist with operational growth and development. The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, made the announcements today in Fortune and Grand Bank respectively. Premier Davis was joined by the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development.

District of Ferryland Receives Over $225,000 for Firefighting Equipment

The Provincial Government is investing more than $225,000 to enhance firefighting capabilities in the District of Ferryland. The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and MHA for the District of Ferryland, have announced that funding is being provided for the purchase of a rescue vehicle and fire equipment for several communities in the district.

Elections Newfoundland and Labrador would like to notify residents of the Conception Bay South district that advance voting will take place tomorrow, October 29, 2014. The polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Public Advisory: Residents Warned of Black Bear Activity
Natural Resources
The Department of Natural Resources is advising residents that there have been black bear sightings in the areas of Gambo, Hare Bay, Indian Bay, Traytown and Glovertown. Conservation officers with the department have placed traps where black bears have been reported and recently relocated a bear from Traytown to a remote area.

Corner Brook was booming with local musical talent, outstanding performances and industry leaders this past weekend, as the city played host to the 22nd Annual MusicNL Awards Gala. The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, presented awards at the gala last night (Sunday, October 26). The gala was the finale to a week of workshops, roundtables, songwriters’ circles and other activities dedicated to musical artists in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Caregivers Week Recognizes Those Who Support and Care for Others

This is Caregivers of Family and Friends Week (October 27-31) in Newfoundland and Labrador, a time to recognize the contributions of those who support and care for relatives and friends in communities throughout the province. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, was in Mount Pearl today (Monday, October 27) for a “Caregiver Day Away” event, hosted by the Mount Pearl Seniors Independence Group, and took the opportunity to sign a proclamation to officially recognize the work of caregivers.
