A new treatment centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for youth with addictions was officially named today. Hope Valley Centre was completed in May 2014 and represents a strategic investment of $12.5 million to enhance mental health and addictions services in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Broadband Service and Improvements Extended to Over 800 Households

Over $565,000 is being invested in broadband access as part of the Provincial Government's commitment to providing leading-edge telecommunications services and infrastructure. Broadband coverage will be extended to an additional 232 households, with improved service extended to 570 households in 12 rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities. An additional $407,800 has been leveraged from other partners and work will be completed by Bell Aliant and SmartLabrador.

Mistaken Point Nomination Bid Submitted to UNESCO World Heritage Centre

Another significant milestone has been reached in Newfoundland and Labrador's bid to have Mistaken Point designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Provincial Government has been working with Mistaken Point Ambassadors Inc. to support the development of the nomination dossier for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The dossier has been received by the World Heritage Centre in Paris, France, this week.
New Appointees Strengthen Advisory Council on Aging and Seniors

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, today announced the appointment of three new members, and the re-appointment of six others, to the Provincial Advisory Council on Aging and Seniors. The 13-member council advocates on behalf of senior citizens province-wide, and is one means by which seniors have strong input into the development of government programs and policies.

Minister Announces NL 911 Bureau Inc. Board Appointments

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services, today extended congratulations to nine individuals from throughout Newfoundland and Labrador on their appointment to the Board of Directors of NL 911 Bureau Inc. The board is responsible for the operation of the new province-wide Basic 911 service to be launched in February.

The East Coast Music Association is better positioned to successfully host East Coast Music Week 2015 as a result of a Provincial Government investment of $56,000 from the Department of Advanced Education and Skills Job Creation Partnership program. The funding will allow the association to hire five staff to assist with the successful implementation of Music Week 2015. Previously, $250,000 was announced by Premier Paul Davis in support of music week activities. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, attended the East Coast Music Award nominations today at the Rock House in St. John’s.

Research & Development Corporation: RDC and Fugro Bringing Arctic-Class Vessel with Research and Development Capabilities to Newfoundland and Labrador

The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) is pleased to announce a $4.9 million investment in a multi-purpose survey, support and research and development vessel to be stationed in St. John’s. The total cost to design, build and operate such a vessel over a 10-year period is estimated at more than $100 million which will be funded by Fugro. RDC’s investment directly targets the research and development capabilities, equipment and operations of the vessel, which will be built and operated by Fugro GeoSurveys (FGI).
