Northern Lights Seafood Receives $39,000 to Research New Scallop Product

Northern Lights Seafood will explore the viability of producing a new seafood product with support from the Provincial Government’s Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, today announced $39,000 to help the company research the production and marketing requirements, and the market potential, of producing half-shell frozen scallops.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, was joined by Corner Brook Mayor Charles Pender at a ceremony today announcing that the Provincial Government will provide $550,000 for phase two of energy efficient upgrades at the Corner Brook Civic Centre. The investment is through the Newfoundland and Labrador Green Fund administered by the Department of Environment and Conservation.

The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) announced today an investment of $750,000 in support of a demonstration plant at Rambler Metals’ Ming Copper-Gold mine in Baie Verte. This demonstration technology has the potential to significantly extend the life of the Ming Mine beyond the current six years. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister Responsible for RDC, made the announcement today at the Geo Centre.
