The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) is investing approximately $1 million in support of graduate and doctoral researchers performing oceans-related research at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, attended the Ocean Industries Student Research Awards (OISRA) ceremony today at Memorial University, where 16 selected student researchers were presented with awards.

New Clarenville Park Has Something to Offer People of all Ages

An age-friendly park, complete with walking trails, benches, green spaces, gazebos, a tobogganing hill, and a community garden was officially opened in Clarenville today as the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, joined the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and MHA for Trinity North, and community leaders and partners, to mark the completion of a project three years in the making.
Provincial Government Releases 2013-14 Public Accounts

The 2013-14 Public Accounts, the audited financial statements of the province for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2014, released today confirm that the deficit for the 2013-14 fiscal year was $388.6 million, a decrease of $175.2 million from the original forecasted deficit of $563.8 million. The change can be attributed to a slight increase in revenues stemming from offshore oil royalties and a growth in personal income, combined with a reduction in expenditures.

From This Rock Culinary Tour Makes its Way Across the Island with Provincial Government Support

From This Rock, the travelling culinary tour which started in Port aux Basques on October 16, is drawing great crowds across the province with an average of 100 people at each venue. The tour ends in St. John’s on November 1. Guests are treated to a multi-course dinner prepared by a culinary team of some of the province’s best chefs.

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, currently located at 34 Pippy Place, is moving to new offices on the 3rd floor of the Sir Brian Dunfield Building (the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Building) at 2 Canada Drive.
New Regulations Expand Pharmacists' Scope of Practice

New regulations under the Pharmacy Act, 2012 will expand the scope of practice of pharmacists in Newfoundland and Labrador. The new regulations will allow pharmacists to administer medication by inhalation and injection, including flu vaccines. Further, the Provincial Government is making an important program enhancement by supporting clients of the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program (NLPDP) in accessing flu shots from their pharmacists free of charge.
Pilot Project Explores Potential for Residents to Increase Waste Diversion

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), in partnership with Product Care and the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA), is launching a pilot program to explore the potential to divert additional waste from provincial landfills through one-day recycling events that allow residents to properly dispose of multiple types of waste at one drop-off location.

The Provincial Government is investing $300,000 in an after-school physical activity program, Participation Nation Unplugged, which is designed to provide school-aged children with recreational options that promote an active lifestyle and overall wellness. The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association Canada Games Head Coach, Blair White, will be holding a regional Identification camp for the 2017 Men’s Canada Games program. This camp will be held at Corner Brook Regional High, Corner Brook on November 1, 2014. The camp will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This camp is open to athletes from the region who were born in 2000 and 2001.
