Mr. Speaker, I’m pleased to rise in this Honourable House today to recognize May 11 to 17 as National Nursing Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The theme for 2015 is Nurses: With you every step of the way. This theme speaks to the broad scope of health services our nurses provide and this week is an excellent opportunity to recognize their contribution to our health care system.
Commemoration of Royal Newfoundland Regiment in Gallipoli

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador approached the Government of Turkey to explore the possibility of erecting a caribou monument to commemorate the Royal Newfoundland Regiment's participation in the Battle of Gallipoli in the First World War.

Department Advising of Error in Big Game Application Mailing and Resulting Privacy Breach

The Department of Environment and Conservation is advising residents that it has been made aware of 15 instances out of a total of 103,000 mailings where Big Game Licence Application recipients have received, in addition to their own application, an application intended for another individual. There have also been two reports of recipients receiving applications in unsealed envelopes.
Provincial Consultations to Begin for All-Party Committee

Improving programs and services to better serve the needs of individuals and families affected by mental illness or addictions is the key focus of the All-Party Committee on Mental Health and Addictions. Recognizing this, and in keeping with the commitment made by the committee, the first in a series of provincial consultations will be held on Monday, May 11, in Corner Brook.

Significant Road Work Happening from Salmonier Line to Whitbourne

A tender is being called for major road upgrades to Route 1 (TCH) from Salmonier Line to Whitbourne, through funding of almost $16 million announced in Budget 2015. The project, as well as planned work from Gambo to Benton, is cost-shard with the Federal Government.

Budget 2015 Supports Robust Roads and Summer Maintenance Programs

Over $90 million is being invested this year to improve and maintain provincial roads and bridges and to continue the Summer Maintenance Program. The funding is part of over $660 million allocated in Budget 2015 for roads, schools, health care facilities and municipal infrastructure projects.
Corner Brook Celebrates Grand Opening of New Water Treatment Plant

Province Invests $1.1 Million in Historic Bonavista

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $1.1 million to the Bonavista Historic Townscape Foundation to complete phase III of the Harbour Front Restoration Initiative, including revitalization of a prime tourist location in the town. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, made the announcement at an event last night in Bonavista.
