Minister Proclaims Construction Education Month

In support of the building and construction industry, the Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works, has proclaimed June as Construction Education Month. Minister Brazil was joined by Rhonda Neary and Ed LeGrow of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association, to sign the proclamation recognizing the contribution the construction industry makes to provincial architecture, infrastructure and economic growth.
Minister Encourages Anglers to be Aware of Defective Salmon Tags and to Practice Responsible Angling Activities This Season

The Department of Environment and Conservation wishes to advise anglers in the province that recently distributed salmon angling tags that accompany salmon angling licences issued by the Wildlife Division have defects. The licences and tags were distributed to vendors and subsequently purchased by anglers before the defects were discovered.

Workshop Fosters Youth Hunter Skills

The Department of Environment and Conservation is partnering with rod and gun clubs in St. John’s and Deer Lake to offer two Youth Hunter Skills Workshops in St. John’s and Deer Lake. The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club session is taking place on June 6, and the Deer Lake Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association session will be held on June 13, 2015.

The Rooms Announces an Extraordinary Legacy Donation from Centennial Leader Individual, Elinor Gill Ratcliffe

The Rooms announced today that local philanthropist, Elinor Gill Ratcliffe, has given an additional $1 million to The Rooms towards the Where Once They Stood We Stand Capital Campaign for the First World War commemoration. Ms. Gill Ratcliffe will name the gallery to contain the First World War exhibition The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Gallery. Today’s gift brings her total contribution to $3.25 million.
Hibernia Project and RDC Investing in New CAE Helicopter Training and R & D Centre

The Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC) and the Research & Development Corporation (RDC) are investing over $16 million in a new helicopter training and research and development centre in Newfoundland and Labrador. HMDC will contribute $13 million to the centre and its helicopter simulator system, while RDC will contribute $3.3 million towards the cost of five research projects and the simulation system. The Honourable Darin King, Minister Responsible for the Research & Development Corporation made the announcement this morning at CAE’s facility in Mount Pearl.
Habitat for Humanity Families Celebrate Home Ownership

Two new Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador partner families celebrated home ownership today, at a home dedication ceremony in Paradise. The two homes were constructed through an investment of $170,000, equally cost-shared between the federal and provincial governments under the 2011-14 Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Agreement for Investment in Affordable Housing. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation and Minister of ServiceNL, attended the event on behalf of the Provincial Government.
Over $205,000 Improves Accessibility to Buildings and Events

Fourteen community-based organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador have been awarded a total of $205,863 through the 2014-15 Inclusion Grants Program. The program provides funding for community-based organizations to create, or improve, the accessibility of the built environment, or provide disability-related supports at events and meetings.
