A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued to identify efficiencies and greater cost-effectiveness for Information Communication Technology (ICT) services within government and public sector entities such as phone lines, cell phone services, Internet access and data networks.

Advanced Education and Skills

The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia finalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will assist apprentices in acquiring the work hours and experience they need to advance their careers. Effective immediately, this MOU is the result of an agreement-in-principle signed by the Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia during the 2015 summer meeting of Canada's premiers.

The Provincial Government continues to make progress for the provision of an Electronic Medical Record with the awarding of a contract to TELUS Health Provider Solutions and an agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) to establish a framework that will govern the implementation and management of a provincial EMR program.

The Provincial Government is providing $166,275 to the Town of St. Lawrence to expand the St. Lawrence Miners' Museum to enhance the tourist experience. The initiative is being driven by a strong partnership including Three L Training and Employment, Island Rock Jewelry and Crafts, and the St. Lawrence Historical Advisory Committee. The Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) held its annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards gala last night. For the past 18 years, NLOWE has recognized women whose successful businesses contribute to the provincial economy and their communities. Natural Resources

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, will announce the details of the Provincial Government's new generic offshore oil royalty framework on Monday, November 2. The announcement will take place in the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Minister Dalley will be joined by Graham Kellas, Vice President, Global Fiscal Research, Wood Mackenzie.

Education and Early Childhood Development

Planning and design work for five school projects will get underway with the conclusion of a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued this past August. The Provincial Government has awarded four contracts, valued in total at approximately $4.7 million, for various K-12 infrastructure projects for the communities of Paradise, Witless Bay/Mobile, Shoal Harbour and Conception Bay South.

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that short traffic delays may be experienced while crossing the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Happy Valley-Goose Bay at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday, October 31 and Monday, November 2.

The Provincial Government, through Eastern Health, has entered into a new arrangement with Chancellor Park for the provision of 120 publicly-funded long-term care beds. The agreement marks another important step in ensuring that capacity exists to address the long-term care needs of residents.

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, will bring greetings at the annual general meeting of YWCA St. John's on Monday, November 2.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

Getting a taxi at a moment’s notice just got easier for more people in Newfoundland and Labrador with the awarding of three grants, valued at $25,000 each, under the Accessible Taxi Pilot Project. The grants have helped enable three taxicab companies to acquire, or retrofit, existing taxis which are accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.

The Provincial Government has completed the final round of Job Creation Partnerships applications for 2015-16 with 89 projects approved representing in total of $3.4 million in funding. These employment opportunities are helping an estimated 430 individuals throughout 80 communities, who are using their skills to support projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.

A contract valued at approximately $15.3 million has been awarded for the construction of a new Grade 4-6 school in Gander. This new school proactively addresses the increased student enrollment in the community and has been designed to accommodate up to 450 students. Site preparation and the installation of site services have already been completed.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Guide to Programs and Services for Individuals and Families - an initiative under the Poverty Reduction Strategy - has been updated with new, easier-to-find information on more than 100 programs and services.

The Department of Environment and Conservation advises the public that Butter Pot Provincial Park is closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic effective November 02, 2015.
