The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Ed Ring, has released his Report A-2015-009 under authority of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act. A summary of the Report is included below.

Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

In an effort to streamline proceedings at polling stations on advance poll day and election day, media are advised that permission is required to enter polling stations for the purpose of reporting and/or filming (in accordance with section 97.1(1) the Elections Act, 1991).

Electors throughout the province are asked to watch their mail for Voter Information Cards being circulated by Elections Newfoundland and Labrador, beginning this week.

There have been two recent convictions in Newfoundland and Labrador for incidents related to illegal salmon fishing.

The deadline for filing candidate nomination papers with Elections Newfoundland and Labrador is approaching. Applications must be received by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015, (1:30 p.m. in most of Labrador).

The Forestry and Agrifoods Agency advises that the McKenzie Brook Access Road near Glenburnie off Route 431 will be closed on Monday, November 16, and will re-open by Monday, November 23.

Transportation and Works

The Department of Transportation and Works advises mariners of a change in dates for the planned closure of the Placentia Lift Bridge.

Executive Council

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will participate in the 2015 Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony tomorrow (Wednesday, November 11). The remembrance ceremony will commence at 10:30 a.m. at the National War Memorial on Duckworth Street in St. John's, upon the parade's arrival.

Transportation and Works

The Department of Transportation and Works is reminding motorists that the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) in the Soldier's Pond and Kelly's Pond area will be completely closed from 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, to 6:00 a.m., Monday, November 16. The closure is to accommodate the installation of a new culvert at Kelly's Pond, spanning the four lanes of the TCH.

The Department of Environment and Conservation advises that the Terra Nova Bridge in the T'Railway Provincial Park is temporarily closed to the public including vehicles and pedestrians, effective immediately.

Service NL

Two companies and two individuals have been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. The charges arise from an incident that occurred on October 25, 2013, involving an employee who suffered fatal injuries as a result of a fall from the roof of the building on which he was working in Labrador City. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch of Service NL.

Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

In a move that signals the official start of Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial general election period, Mr. Victor Powers, Chief Electoral Officer, today issued election writs to all 40 electoral district Returning Officers. The general election will take place on Monday, November 30, 2015.

Transportation and Works

The Department of Transportation and Works advises motorists that the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) in the Soldier's Pond and Kelly's Pond area will be completely closed to vehicular traffic from 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 13 to 6:00 a.m., Monday, November 16. The closure is to accommodate the installation of a new culvert at Kelly's Pond, spanning the four lanes of the TCH. Lane reductions have been in place in recent weeks in the area as a preventative safety measure.

Today the Provincial Government released the report from Rubin Thomlinson LLP following a review of the current Harassment and Discrimination-Free Workplace Policy and Respectful Workplace Program. The report was received on November 4, 2015.
