Maintenance Crews at Work to Address Road and Highway Repairs

Employees from maintenance depots across the province are working diligently to address winter and spring highway and road maintenance needs. Maintenance crews actively monitor approximately 10,000 kilometres of primary and secondary highways and community access roads, while undertaking snow clearing, salting and sanding, as well as pothole, pavement and washout repairs.
Nominations Open for the Inclusive Education Award

As part of Inclusive Education Month, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Community Living (NLACL) has opened nominations for their annual Inclusive Education Award. Each year the NLACL honours a K-12 school for their outstanding efforts to develop and design their classrooms, programs and activities so that all students can participate in all aspects of school life.
Department Provides Update on Arrival of MV Legionnaire

Construction of the MV Legionnaire, the province’s newest 80-metre ice class ferry, is complete. The vessel is docked in Romania and will enter service when enhancements to the wharves at Bell Island and Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s are concluded.

Applications are now available for the Provincial Government’s Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Community Grants Program, which helps incorporated municipalities, Aboriginal governments, communities and organizations throughout the province plan for an aging population. An age-friendly community is one where the physical and social environments enable older individuals to live in a secure setting, enjoy health and continue to participate fully in society.

February 24 is Pink Shirt Day in Newfoundland and Labrador. Taking place during Violence Awareness Week in schools, the goal of this day is to raise awareness around all forms of bullying and how they can be prevented. To help support and establish safe and caring learning environments for all students, the Provincial Government is providing $18,000 to 36 schools as part of the Safe and Caring Special Project Awards.
