Municipal Affairs

Hearings scheduled with West Newfoundland Regional Appeal Board at the Holiday Inn in Deer Lake tomorrow (Wednesday, March 9) have been cancelled and will be re-scheduled for a later date.

Justice and Public Safety

The Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission recognizes International Women’s Day, celebrated annually March 8 to commemorate the struggle for women's equality.

Advanced Education and Skills

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, is encouraging residents throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to participate in activities to celebrate Multiculturalism Week, March 20-26.

Transportation and Works

Temporary repair work will begin on the Bell Island ferry ramp tomorrow (Wednesday, March 9), following the last scheduled vehicular traffic for the day.

Health and Community Services

The Provincial Government, together with community partners CHANNAL, Stella’s Circle and the Schizophrenia Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, is proclaiming March 6 to 12 as Stigma Awareness Week.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development: Research and Development Corporation

Nineteen students at Memorial University were presented with Ocean Industries Student Research Awards (OISRA) at a ceremony today at Memorial University. The awards program, delivered through the Research & Development Corporation (RDC), supports the development of highly qualified researchers exploring areas relevant to Newfoundland and Labrador’s ocean industries including offshore petroleum engineering, ocean technology, marine transportation, and fisheries and aquaculture.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development and Minister Responsible for Research & Development Corporation (RDC), will attend a reception honouring the 2015-16 recipients of RDC’s Ocean Industries Student Research Awards on Monday, March 7. The event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Bruneau Centre for Research and Innovation, St. John’s Campus, Memorial University.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will join provincial seafood producers and other industry players at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston which takes place from Sunday, March 6, to Tuesday, March 8. Seafood Expo North America is the largest seafood trade event in North America attracting over 20,000 buyers and suppliers from more than 100 countries.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will participate in the Seafood Expo North America. The expo is taking place from March 6 to 8, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summit Street, Boston.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will attend a funding announcement tomorrow (Friday, March 4) in the Town of Conception Bay South by Member of Parliament, Ken McDonald. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Conception Bay South Town Hall, 11 Remembrance Square, Conception Bay South.

Transportation and Works

Motorists are advised that the Route 2 ramp from Conception Bay South to the Trans Canada Highway westbound will close at 11:00 a.m. for approximately one hour to repair a shoulder washout.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will address participants at the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union’s (FFAW-Unifor) Rally to Stand Up for Adjacency, seeking fairness in the sharing of the Northern Shrimp resource, today (Thursday, March 3). The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and will take place at the Bella Vista, 24 Torbay Road, St. John’s.
