The Rooms has been named the recipient of two Gold Quill Awards by the International Association of Business Communicators. The Rooms captured the 2018 Gold Quill Award of Excellence in Marketing, Advertising and Brand Communication for the Remember Them at The Rooms campaign, as well as the 2018 Gold Quill Award of Excellence in the Audio/Visual category for the Sing You Home campaign launch video.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board; the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety; and the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL, will visit Rovers Search and Rescue in Paradise to recognize the contributions of Search and Rescue Volunteers as part of Volunteer Week. The ministers will also highlight government’s support for first responders in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will participate in an event to celebrate the last structural steel to be placed in the construction of Memorial University’s Core Science Facility. Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, and officials of Memorial University.

Mr. Speaker, I’d like to recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and advise that starting tonight, we will light the Confederation Building blue in recognition. This month, we are raising awareness about the issues facing child and youth victims of violence and drawing attention to the role everyone in the community has in helping keep children and youth safe.

Mr. Speaker, today we recognize a life well lived. Al Chislett was a self-reliant man and a visionary whose entrepreneurial spirit improved and enhanced the mining industry in our province.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to offer condolences to the families and friends of those affected by the horrific bus accident earlier this month in Saskatchewan that claimed the lives of 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. One of the young men lost that day, Parker Tobin, had ties to this province.
