In our most recent reporting period (January 1 — March 31, 2018), the OIPC received 58 privacy breach reports under the ATIPPA, 2015 from 22 public bodies. This is down from the 59 reports from 20 public bodies received in the previous reporting period.

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Speaker of the House of Assembly, tabled a report today on his recent visit to the Republic of Turkey. On December 7, 2017, the House of Assembly unanimously passed a resolution requesting that the Speaker travel to Turkey as an emissary of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador to advance discussions toward a shared goal of establishing a monument commemorating the experience of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Gallipoli during the First World War.

“We are Connected – Control–Alt–Delete: Control Data, Use Alternatives, and Delete Risks” is the theme of the 2018 APSIM Conference. To this end, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, together with the College of the North Atlantic; the Office of the Chief Information Officer; the Department of Health and Community Services; Memorial University; Eastern Health; the ATIPP Office, the Department of Justice and Public Safety; and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information have developed a conference that promotes collaboration and builds awareness of the overlap and interplay between the access, privacy, security and information management communities. Our goal is to facilitate our ability to assist each other in managing, protecting and securing information.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to commemorate the life of Arthur Gill, a true pioneer, innovator and entrepreneur in the province’s agriculture industry, who passed away on Wednesday, April 18, at the age of 88. I wish to offer condolences to Mr. Gill’s family and friends, and his daughter, Janice Gill, a manager in the Agriculture and Lands Branch of Fisheries and Land Resources.
