Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, today released details of a stronger and deeper mandate to support women and girls in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will address delegates at the Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador Annual Conference and Trade Show tomorrow (Wednesday, February 27). The event takes place at the Quality Hotel & Suites Gander, 100 Trans-Canada Highway, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works, will meet with the Town of Gambo council tomorrow morning to discuss highway and health care infrastructure in the region.

The Department of Transportation and Works has awarded contracts for ferry services for seven communities on the south coast of the island portion of the province.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, announced today that applications are now being accepted for the new Newfoundland and Labrador Community Transportation Program.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Applications for hunters eligible to participate in the provincial 2019-20 big game licence draw are now available online, and paper applications will be arriving in the mail in the coming days.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will celebrate Pink Shirt Day with educators and students tomorrow (Wednesday, February 27) at St. John Bosco School, 75 Linegar Avenue, Shea Heights in St. John’s. Minister Hawkins will be joined by the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and MHA for Waterford Valley.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Conservation officers are working to capture a fox that attacked and severely injured a small dog in Plum Point today. Anyone sighting a fox in the area is asked to call 709-861-7355.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will issue a call for the new Newfoundland and Labrador Community Transportation Program applications tomorrow (Tuesday, February 26). The event will take place at the Metrobus Depot, 25 Messenger Drive, St. John’s, beginning at 1:45 p.m.

The Provincial Government conducted public consultations on automobile insurance in 2018 to complement the review received from the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB).

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Heart & Stroke Foundation event related to the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Schools Program that was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today (Monday, February 25) at Waterford Valley High School has been cancelled due to weather.

Justice and Public Safety

Following unanimous support for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to establish an all-party committee on democratic reform, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Government House Leader and Committee Chair, is taking the first steps in convening a committee to initiate real change.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour
Executive Council

Newfoundland and Labrador’s support model for female apprentices has been recognized as a national best practice. The Government of Canada has announced $3.2 million in funding over three and a half years to the Canada’s Building Trades Unions to replicate the Newfoundland and Labrador Office to Advance Women Apprentices model in Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The Atlantic Accord is a top priority for our government, and Prime Minister Trudeau’s presence in the province today to advance discussions shows this is a priority for him. Both Prime Minister Trudeau and I recognize the significance of these discussions to the future of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will participate in a Heart & Stroke Foundation event related to the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Schools Program on Monday, February 25. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Waterford Valley High School, 465 Topsail Road, St. John’s.

Finance

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will address graduates at the 2019 Chartered Professional Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPA NL) Convocation tomorrow (Saturday, February 23) at the Delta Hotel, 120 New Gower Street, St. John’s. Minister Osborne will speak at approximately 7:00 p.m.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will participate in the 2019 Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games in Grand Falls-Windsor being held February 22-24 and March 1-3.
