Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, was joined by the Honourable Derrick Bragg, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, and the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL, at the Drive Electric NL Electric Vehicle Showcase at Confederation Building where they took the opportunity to showcase the prototype of new provincial licence plates for green vehicles.

Today, the Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, introduced amendments to the Liquor Corporation Act to realign the governance structure of the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) to better reflect the current operational realities of the corporation.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will speak at Quality of Care NL’s antibiotic forum tomorrow (Wednesday, November 20).

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Brian Warr, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will visit Family Child Care Connections tomorrow (Wednesday, November 20) at 9:00 a.m. to celebrate National Child Day. Family Child Care Connections is located at 50 Pippy Place, Unit 21, St. John’s.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

Due to a significant washout and ongoing erosion concerns immediately west of the culvert under the Trans-Canada Highway at the Wreckhouse parking lot, this portion of the T’Railway Provincial Park has been closed until further notice. Users are asked to avoid the area.

Office of the Child and Youth Advocate

November 20 is National Child Day. It is a special day that recognizes our country’s commitment to upholding the rights of all children and youth. This year’s National Child Day marks the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. While Canada has made progress on children’s rights, there is much work to be done in this province and throughout the country to advance and protect children’s rights.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Residents of Rocky Harbour and area are asked to take appropriate action to properly store household garbage to address the problem of black bears roaming the area. To avoid attracting bears in communities and backyards do not store garbage in outside containers until collection day and keep pets inside or under close supervision. Two bear traps are currently set in the area and conservation officers continue to monitor on a regular basis. The public are reminded to avoid areas where traps have been set.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today announced reappointments to the Standing Fish Price Setting Panel.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to highlight the positive work of municipal leaders which was recognized at the annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Conference and Trade Show this past weekend in St. John’s. I was very pleased to join Premier Ball and other ministers and MHAs at the convention to acknowledge the work of our municipal councils and employees who work tirelessly every day to improve our communities.
