Public Advisory: Provincial Government Working to Ensure Humane Treatment of Feral Cats

With relocation of residents from Little Bay Islands underway, the Provincial Government is working collaboratively with a private veterinarian to ensure feral cats in the community are safely trapped, assessed by qualified professionals and, if necessary, euthanized in a humane manner. Animals considered good candidates for adoption will be brought to an animal shelter.
Provincial Government Reaches Tentative Agreements with NAPE

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has reached a tentative agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public Employees (NAPE) to extend 16 current collective agreements until March 31, 2022. These agreements are subject to ratification by NAPE’s over 16,000 members from across the province.

Legislation Passed to Support Province in National Class Action Against Opioid Manufacturers and Wholesalers

Legislation to support the recovery of health care costs suffered as a result of opioid-related wrongs has passed in the House of Assembly. The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, announced in September that Newfoundland and Labrador supports the national class action launched by British Columbia against opioid manufacturers and wholesalers.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, toured Cornerstone Farm in Cormack today to view how a local dairy farm is expanding its milking herd with help from a $400,000 investment from the Canadian Agricultural Partnership. Combined with the Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program, more than $8 million has been invested to support the province’s agriculture sector.
