Information gathered from extensive consultations across the province to develop a Population Growth Strategy has been released today. What We Heard: A Summary of Comments, Suggestions and Ideas on Population Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador is a compilation of the opinions of residents and stakeholders on how to best sustain communities, grow the province’s population and support labour market needs and economic prosperity. Feedback from these consultations is also being used to support the development of the Workforce Development Strategy.

$1.8 Million in Road and Bridge Improvement Contracts Awarded on the Burin Peninsula

Contracts totalling $1.8 million have been awarded to Nortech Construction and Mallay’s Industrial Services Ltd. for road and bridge improvements on the Burin Peninsula. The work associated with both of these contracts will be completed this year.

New Deputy Chief and Superintendent Appointed at RNC

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Justice, today announced that James Carroll, Member of the Order of Merit (M.O.M.), has been appointed as Deputy Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary while Marlene Jesso has been promoted to Superintendent. Mr. Carroll fills a position that was left vacant when Bill Janes was appointed Chief of Police in February.
$524,000 Tender Awarded for Windows at C.B.S. School
Education
Queen Elizabeth Regional High School in Conception Bay South will soon have new windows, following the recent award of a tender, valued at close to $524,000, to Eastern Contracting Ltd. of Mount Pearl.
Participation Requested in Survey Targeting Labrador Snowmobile Trail Users

In the coming weeks, the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office will conduct a survey of Labrador winter snowmobile trail users to identify opportunities to improve the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy.
Public Advisory: Outer Ring Road Cleanup and Closure on July 20

The Department of Transportation and Works is advising motorists that the Outer Ring Road between Portugal Cove Road and the Team Gushue Highway will be closed on Sunday, July 20, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The closure of five kilometres of highway is required to enable cleanup efforts.
New Aquaculture Wharf in Milltown Made Possible with $4 Million Investment
Fisheries and Aquaculture
Another community on the Coast of Bays will benefit from enhanced aquaculture infrastructure with the announcement of $4 million from the Provincial Government to construct an aquaculture inflow wharf in the community of Milltown. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced the funding today, which will develop the fourth inflow wharf in the region. These wharves are used exclusively by the aquaculture industry to reduce the possibility of cross contamination by other vessels.
Premier Marshall Outlines Major Energy Projects and Rapid Economic Growth in the Province at New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers Meeting

Broadband Service Extended to Over 5,000 Additional Households

As a part of the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing leading edge telecommunications services and infrastructure, broadband coverage will be extended to an additional 5,086 households in 102 Newfoundland and Labrador communities. The Provincial Government will invest $4.6 million in this third phase of the Rural Broadband Initiative. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development.
