Executive Council

Thirty-nine organizations supporting engagement activities and learning opportunities for young people across Newfoundland and Labrador will receive approximately $744,000 in funding from the Provincial Government. The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, announced the recipients of Grants to Youth Organizations today.

The Provincial Government is joining with the towns of Baine Harbour and Burin, to provide a total of $829,000 in cost-shared funding for important water system upgrade projects.

Residents in the District of Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune will see the completion of a water project and road and sewer upgrades through a $1.2 million cost-shared investment between the province and local communities. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to investing in projects which deliver benefits to residents to support the enhancement of basic services in rural parts of the province.

North Shore Roofing Ltd. has been awarded a tender, valued at more than $121,200, to replace the roof at Bay d’Espoir Academy in Milltown.

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Service NL, has proclaimed July as the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada (NAACC) Automotive Heritage Month in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Provincial Government is partnering with the Town of Campbellton to provide $400,000 in cost-shared funding for a water storage tank.

Finance

A delegation from Newfoundland and Labrador is in Europe this week to honour the sacrifices of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians during the First World War. As part of the province’s Honour 100 initiative to commemorate those who answered the call to war 100 years ago, the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, along with veterans, members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and youth delegates from all over Newfoundland and Labrador are visiting a number of memorial sites throughout the week.

The Honourable Felix Collins, Attorney General, will attend the Beaumont Hamel 98th Commemoration ceremony in Ottawa tomorrow (Tuesday, July 1). The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at the National Aboriginal Veterans Memorial, Elgin Street. Minister Collins will be laying a wreath on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Legislation which protects the integrity of the public service in Newfoundland and Labrador will come into force tomorrow (Tuesday, July 1). The Public Interest Disclosure and Whistleblower Protection Act allows public service employees to disclose serious and significant wrongdoings without fear or threat of reprisal.

Through the work of strong town councils, communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador ‎continue to make progress on the renewal of infrastructure. To support this continued growth, the Provincial Government is announcing $1.6 million cost-shared with the Town of Steady Brook for the construction of a new municipal building.
