The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, and the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL, will attend the 2017 provincial launch of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Project Red Ribbon campaign Monday, November 20. The event will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the RNC Training Centre, Fort Townsend, St. John’s.

In recognition of National Child Day, the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will visit Family and Child Care Connections, Monday, November 20, at 9:30 a.m. The child care centre is located at 50 Pippy Place, St. John’s.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, joined by the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources and MHA for Corner Brook, as well as Dr. Bill Radford, President and CEO of College of the North Atlantic, today announced the inaugural round of projects approved through the Workforce Innovation Centre.

The meeting will take place at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 411 Stavanger Drive, St. John’s, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Education and Early Childhood Development

Today marked the official opening of École intermédiaire et secondaire francophone de Saint-Jean, a multi-level school located on Rickett’s Road in St. John’s. The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, participated in today’s event and was joined by representatives of the Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, school administration, teachers, staff, students and members of the community.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced $500,000 to support Theatre Newfoundland Labrador in the construction of a new multi-functional theatre complex in Cow Head.

The Town of Centreville-Wareham-Trinity and the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources have entered into a new Municipal Habitat Stewardship Agreement that will help protect valuable wetland and coastal habitats in the community.

Pursuant to section 112 of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015, ministers are required to consult with the OIPC on all proposed legislation that “could have implications for access to information or protection of privacy.” After receipt of a draft of the Prescription Monitoring Act, officials of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) met with officials of the Department of Health and Community Services to convey concerns about the proposed legislation.

Twenty new home hemodialysis machines will be purchased over the next two years to provide opportunities for patients to participate in home-based dialysis treatment. Funding of $600,000 will be provided for the purchase of the machines.
