Individuals wishing to apply for a gender-neutral birth certificate can now access the required forms on the Service NL website at www.servicenl.gov.nl.ca/birth/changing_your_sex_designation/.

Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador; the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development; and the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development; will announce the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Early Learning and Child Care Bilateral Agreement tomorrow (Friday, December 15).

Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the grand unveiling of the Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Centre tomorrow (Friday, December 15). The Premier will be joined by the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for Mount Scio, as well as the Raise it Up Campaign Cabinet, donors, community leaders, and the riders themselves for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Provincial Government continues to make additional Agriculture Areas of Interest available to commercial farmers, part-time commercial farmers or new farmers. Another 10 areas, totalling approximately 19,800 hectares and located in various areas of the province, are available for application for agriculture purposes.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, announced Glenn Goss has been named as Interim Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. Mr. Goss was previously the Executive Director, Human Resources and Engineering for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, will bring greetings and recognize long service members at the annual Christmas dinner for the Rovers Ground Search and Rescue, in conjunction with the Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour is undertaking a partnership with College of the North Atlantic to expand employment planning services to college campuses across the province over the coming months.

Dean Brinton, CEO of The Rooms Corporation, was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal in the Civil Division by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, today at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Education and Early Childhood Development

In a report today on child care fees, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives notes that in 2017, St. John’s is reporting the highest reduction in median fees for preschoolers from the previous year (down 2.4%) – only two other Canadian cities showed a reduction (Burnaby and Calgary). St. John’s is also ranked the second lowest among centres that reported a waiting list.
