Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting 24 new cases of COVID-19. There are now 136 active cases in the territory.

Yukon’s total case count is: 332

Youth Roots Grant supports four community projects aimed at empowering youth

The Youth Roots Grant, a funding opportunity that supports substance use prevention efforts, has awarded $18,500 to four community projects across the Yukon.

This grant focuses on initiatives that build social, emotional and physical spaces where youth can thrive and are less likely to start unhealthy, risk-taking behaviours.

The Youth Roots Grant funding recipients for June 2021 include Big Brothers, Big Sisters Yukon; Boys and Girls Club of Yukon; Village of Carmacks and Village of Teslin. Each recipient’s project details can be found below.

June 27, 2021: new COVID-19 cases confirmed; further guidance on outbreak provided

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting 44 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday afternoon. There are now 124 active cases in the territory. He now states this is the first true “wave” of COVID-19 in Yukon.

Yukon’s total case count: 308

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting 22 new cases of COVID-19 for today. This brings the active case count to 111 with reported recoveries. Since June 4, 2021, all of the variant testing results received to date are positive for the Gamma (P.1) variant.

Boil water advisory for residents of Carmacks with private wells

A boil water advisory has been issued for residents of the Village of Carmacks and Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation who use private wells.

The advisory is a precautionary measure to protect public health. Private wells may be impacted by flooding and high ground water from rising water levels on the Yukon River.

The territory’s air ambulance program has expanded to include obstetrical, neonatal and pediatric critical care transport capabilities through Yukon’s new SKY (Sick Kids Yukon) flight team.

Health and Social Services Minister Tracy-Anne McPhee and Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn were joined by Yukon EMS Deputy Chief of Clinical Operations Ryan Soucy to unveil the flight team and provide an overview of the program this afternoon at the Emergency Response Centre in Whitehorse.

June 24, 2021: Chief Medical Officer of Health reports 18 new cases of COVID-19

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting 18 new cases of COVID-19 for today. This brings the active case count to 107 with reported recoveries. Since June 4, 2021, all of the variant testing results received to date are positive for the Gamma variant.

Premier of the Yukon Sandy Silver has issued the following statement:

“Indigenous communities have long known the truth about residential schools and that truth can no longer be ignored by Canadians.
 
“We are devastated to learn of the discovery by the Cowessess First Nation. Our communities are still grieving from the discoveries in Kamloops and other sites in Canada and we know, with a heavy heart, that there will be more.
 

June 23, 2021: Chief Medical Officer of Health reports one death and four new cases of COVID-19

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is saddened to announce the death of another Yukon resident from COVID-19.

There are four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, and the active case count is 103. Since June 4, 2021, all of the variant testing results received to date are positive for the Gamma (P.1) variant.

Yukon’s total case count: 224

For the new cases since 12 p.m. on June 22:

June 22, 2021: new COVID-19 cases confirmed; community transmission among unvaccinated

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is announcing eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are now 92 active cases in the territory with recoveries expected. Since June 4, 2021, screening results received so far indicate all cases are positive for the Gamma (P.1) variant.

Organizations receive funding to target prevention of violence against Indigenous women

Six Yukon-based organizations will receive funding over the next two years to help prevent violence against Indigenous women and girls. A total of $200,000 from the Prevention of Violence against Aboriginal Women fund (PVAAW) will be split between these community organizations and their designated projects:

Since June 4, 2021, screening results received so far indicate all cases are positive for the Gamma (P.1) variant.

June 19, 2021: new COVID-19 cases confirmed; community transmission among unvaccinated

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is announcing 29 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are now 87 active cases in the territory. Thirty one are confirmed as the Gamma (P.1) variant, however it is presumed that all cases identified since June 4, 2021 are this variant of concern.

June 18, 2021: F.H. Collins prom attendees directed to self-isolate; case count continues to increase

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Dr. Brendan Hanley is directing Grade 12 students who attended the F.H. Collins prom event on Friday, June 11, to self-isolate until end of day on Friday, June 25, at 11:59 p.m. This direction is issued under his authority under Sections 11 and 17 of the Communicable Disease regulation under the Public Health and Safety Act.

Drive-up COVID-19 testing opens tonight to address increased demand

The COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre (CTAC) will open a drive-up testing centre tonight to assist with demand for testing since the beginning of the most recent outbreak.

While CTAC has been able to meet most of the demand for testing with indoor testing, the drive up option will assist those who are nervous about their exposure by coming inside. They can now request an in-car option.

June 17, 2021: new COVID-19 cases confirmed

Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Brendan Hanley, announces nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are now 54 active cases in the territory including one probable case and two out of territory cases. While only 11 are confirmed as Gamma variant, it is presumed that all recent cases are this variant of concern.

Yukon’s total case count: 145 confirmed and one probable case.*

The Good Energy E-rebates platform features the government’s energy efficient incentives for homeowners and residences, and Yukoners can now apply using the online platform.
