Updated requirements for Canadian dogs entering the United States

Yukoners planning to travel to the United States (US) on or after August 1, 2024, must meet new requirements if they want to bring their dogs over the border. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced in May that dogs entering the US would require government veterinary confirmed rabies vaccination and microchip identification.

“On Saturday, July 20, the Government of Yukon inspectors issued additional direction to Victoria Gold Corporation in relation to the company’s response to the heap leach failure that occurred on June 24.

“Inspector’s directions are issued to direct the company to undertake actions required to protect the environment and people.

Recognizing that Yukoners across the territory contribute to community safety, Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee is encouraging Yukoners to nominate those who contribute to safer Yukon communities for the Minister of Justice Community Safety Award.

The nomination period for the 2024 Community Safety Awards is open now. Nominations will be accepted until August 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm. Successful recipients will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in November 2024.

New duplex opens in Dawson

Lottery for lots in Grizzly Valley, Golden Horn and Mendenhall opens July 16, 2024

The Government of Yukon is releasing 20 country residential lots in the Grizzly Valley, Golden Horn and Mendenhall subdivisions near Whitehorse today.

Of the 20 country residential lots being released by public lottery today, 16 are in the Grizzly Valley subdivision, two lots are in the Mendenhall Subdivision and two lots are in the Golden Horn Subdivision. The lots range in size between 3.08 hectares to 9.48 hectares.

S&P Global Ratings reaffirms ‘AA Stable’ credit rating for 15th consecutive year

S&P Global Ratings (S&P) reaffirmed the Yukon has an “AA Stable” credit rating for 2024 today, while maintaining a stable outlook for the territory.

When assigning ratings to provinces and territories, S&P considers population growth, economic performance and government finances. In its report, the agency highlighted the Yukon’s continued positive economic outlook over the next few years, in addition to a growing population and the recovery of the tourism sector.

Premier Ranj Pillai has appointed Samantha Paterson as Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Lyle Dinn as acting Public Service Commissioner.

Samantha Paterson has been with the Government of Yukon for 32 years in a variety of senior leadership positions. Samantha has served as assistant deputy minister of Corporate Services in Energy, Mines, and Resources since 2021. This appointment is effective July 16.
