Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Provincial Government has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for auditors to verify net worth and source of funding for applicants under the new business immigration categories of the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) announced in July 2018.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will attend the launch of Fall Prevention Month tomorrow (Tuesday, November 6). The event will take place at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive, St. John’s, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Minister Dempster will be joined by Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will speak at the opening of the 26th Biennial Registered Nurses’ Union of Newfoundland and Labrador Convention tomorrow (Tuesday, November 6). The event takes place at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, 115 Cavendish Square, St. John’s. Minister Haggie will speak at 9:15 a.m.

Natural Resources

Mr. Speaker, I rise today in this Honourable House to highlight Mining the Future 2030 – a plan to grow the Newfoundland and Labrador mining industry, which was launched this past Friday.

Mr. Speaker, this morning at College of the North Atlantic’s Ridge Road campus I had the pleasure of proclaiming this to be National Technology Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. Also being celebrated is Skills Canada’s National Skilled Trades and Technology Week.

November 5 is Guy Fawkes Night and the Provincial Government is reminding residents to ensure that bonfires are conducted in a safe and legal manner.

Finance

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board will deliver the 2018-19 Fall Fiscal and Economic Update tomorrow (Tuesday, November 6). The news conference will take place in the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will bring greetings at the Official Unveiling and Dedication of the One Hundred Portraits of War Sculpture on Sunday, November 4, in Victoria Park (Water St. side) in St. John’s at 2:00 p.m.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works, will participate in the 26th Annual National Conference on Public-Private Partnerships on November 5-6 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Exploits River bridge near Millertown has re-opened to light traffic only (pickups and smaller vehicles) until further notice. The bridge had been closed temporarily to accommodate repairs.

Health and Community Services

Carol Anne Haley, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Community Services, will speak at the Memorial University of Newfoundland School of Nursing Annual Crest ceremony on Monday, November 5. The event takes at the Main Auditorium, Health Sciences Centre, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will proclaim National Technology Week in Newfoundland and Labrador on Monday, November 5, at 9:00 a.m. at College of the North Atlantic’s campus on Ridge Road in St. John’s.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Vehicles will have limited access to the Star Lake Road forest access road in the Buchans area from November 5-23. During that period, road users should expect delays of two to four hours due to scheduled maintenance work taking place from the entrance near Buchans Highway to the Star Lake generating station.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today released Mining the Future 2030. An initiative of The Way Forward, this industry development plan was created through collaboration with Mining Industry NL, with the goal of strategically positioning Newfoundland and Labrador as a globally competitive, top tier jurisdiction for mineral exploration and development.

Transportation and Works

Motorists are advised that the construction detour on Route 75 has been temporarily removed to allow traffic in the Conception Bay North area to continue to flow while Route 70 has been closed by the RCMP. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the construction zones.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

To further position Newfoundland and Labrador as a leader in Canada’s cannabis industry and create new jobs, the Provincial Government has reached a production and supply agreement with Biome Grow Inc. and its local entity Back Home Medical Cannabis Corporation. This performance-based agreement will help create a minimum of 120 new production jobs, bring economic spin-offs to the Bay St. George area and more than $15 million in revenue to the province over five years.
