Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, and Derrick Bragg, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Environment, will address the Avalon regional meeting of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow (Friday, February 1). The meeting take place at the Holiday Inn Express, 5 Navigator Avenue, St. John’s, at 4:00 p.m.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Provincial Government is committed to diversifying regional economies and strengthening the province’s economic foundation. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced nearly $132,000 from the Business Development Support program to assist with marketing activities for three emerging companies in western Newfoundland.

As part of protecting consumers and addressing automobile insurance rates, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has provided a comprehensive report to support government in making decisions. The report is available at www.servicenl.gov.nl.ca/insurance/pdf/auto_ins_review_01_29_2019.pdf.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, announced today that the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will establish a stand-alone Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

Federal, provincial and territorial labour ministers met today in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to discuss important workplace issues, including occupational health and safety harmonization, harassment and violence, mental health and wage gaps.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development, will bring greetings at a Hockey Canada announcement, taking place tomorrow (Thursday, January 31) in the Town of Paradise. The event will take place at the Double Ice Complex, 1 Sarah Davis Way, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, is pleased to announce an enhancement to the province’s health care system that will allow all ophthalmologists to perform cataract surgeries using hospital operating rooms and their own approved clinics.

The Provincial Government today announced it has reached a collective agreement with the Association of Allied Health Professionals (AAHP). Ratification of this agreement concluded on Thursday, January 24.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, met with members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture in Gander this morning to talk about engagement – specifically how the department is working with farmers and producers to continue growing the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture sector.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

A recent Federal, Provincial and Territorial meeting of Ministers Responsible for Emergency Management in Edmonton saw the release of the first ever Emergency Management Strategy. Derrick Bragg, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Environment represented the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador at the meeting where participants also discussed progress made on shared priorities in emergency management in Canada.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works, will be available to media tomorrow (Wednesday, January 30), at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the 2019 update to the Five-Year Provincial Roads plan and highway upgrades planned for the upcoming construction season. Minister Crocker will be joined by Jim Organ, Executive Director of the Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will join the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, to co-chair a meeting of the federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for labour tomorrow (Wednesday, January 30) at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, 115 Cavendish Square, St. John’s. Ministers Davis and Hajdu will be joined by the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL and Minister Responsible for Workplace NL.
