Today, I express my deepest respect to the Sikh community as they observe the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. This significant occasion holds great importance for the Sikh community here in the Yukon and around the world.

“Guru Arjan Dev Ji was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in shaping Sikh philosophy and principles. His devotion, compassion and unwavering commitment to the betterment of humanity continue to inspire generations of Sikhs and people from diverse backgrounds.

Yukon Government monitoring Donnie Creek wildfire

The Government of Yukon is committed to ensuring that Yukon residents and businesses have the information they need to stay safe during natural disasters and times of crisis.

As the Donnie Creek wildfire complex in northeast British Columbia is burning within a few kilometres of the Alaska Highway, the Government of Yukon, through its Emergency Measures Organization (EMO), is holding daily meetings with emergency partners in British Columbia and within the Yukon to monitor the situation and prepare to respond if and when needed.

“The theme this year is ‘Closing the Circle: Addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Older Age Policy, Law and Evidence-based Responses’. The goal is to emphasize that we all have a vital role to play in protecting the rights of older persons.

Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations renew firefighting partnerships for wildfire season

Keeping with the Yukon government’s commitment to working in partnership with Yukon First Nations and being there for Yukoners in times of crisis, the Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations have renewed three-year agreements for managing wildfire in the territory. These agreements outline hiring procedures for initial attack firefighters across the Yukon.

What We Heard report published highlighting feedback on carbon rebate program design

The Government of Yukon has published a “What We Heard” report outlining feedback from  stakeholders regarding how funds generated by the Government of Canada's Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS) can be reinvested into a carbon rebate program.

The OBPS, a component of the federal carbon pollution pricing system, was designed to lower emissions while maintaining the competitive edge of energy-intensive and trade-exposed industries.

A special sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly was held in Dawson City today to commemorate the Yukon’s 125th anniversary. It was June 13, 1898, that this land separated from the Northwest Territories and joined Confederation as the Yukon Territory.

Government of Yukon reminds rural Yukoners to switch to new satellite internet service provider

The Government of Yukon recognizes the importance of having access to affordable, robust and dependable internet for Yukoners. For the past number of years the Xplore satellite service, formerly Xplornet, has provided internet access for more than 280 rural Yukoners.

Effective September 2023, Xplore internet services will no longer be available. It is likely that customers may experience connectivity issues prior to this date.

Rural Yukoners can secure uninterrupted internet access by proactively exploring alternative service providers.

Yukon schools and community organizations receive $350,000 for student attendance projects

New Chair appointed for the Yukon Housing Corporation Board of Directors

The Government of Yukon has appointed Doris Bill as the new Chair of the Yukon Housing Corporation (YHC) Board of Directors. The three-year term appointment was made on May 15, 2023.

Ms. Bill, former Chief of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, was born in Whitehorse and has multi-generational family roots throughout the territory. She has championed many social issues such as community safety and housing. Her diverse experience and unique insights into community housing issues will position her as a trusted and inspiring leader of the current YHC Board of Directors.

Government of Yukon invites public feedback on new Animal Protection and Control Act regulations

Additional funding bolsters Yukon First Nations-led wildfire risk reduction
