The Act to Amend the Victims of Crime Act (2023) receives assent

The Government of Yukon is working to protect victims of crime and to ensure that victim service providers can confidently assure their clients of confidentiality. As part of this, The Act to Amend the Victims of Crime Act (2023) has passed the Yukon Legislative Assembly and received assent.

What We Heard report available for Whitehorse schools capital planning engagement

The Government of Yukon has released a report on the input received for Whitehorse school capital planning.

In spring 2023, the Government of Yukon collected feedback from Yukoners on their ideas, considerations and needs about building, upgrading and renovating Whitehorse-area schools. The engagement period ran for just over 60 days and ended in May 2023. During that time Yukoners were asked to provide feedback via an online survey, written submissions, targeted presentations, focus groups and public open houses held across Whitehorse.

Operation NANOOK-TATIGIIT enhances Yukon's emergency preparedness

The Government of Yukon participated in a territory-wide emergency preparedness exercise, Operation NANOOK-TATIGIIT 2023, from October 23 to 26, together with partner agencies and governments.

Operation NANOOK-TATIGIIT is an interagency territorial exercise that takes place yearly in one of Canada’s three territories. It provides an important opportunity to test and improve territorial emergency preparedness and coordination between all levels of government, without the disruption associated with actual emergency responses.

The Government of Yukon provides increased funding to Yukon municipalities

The Government of Yukon recognizes the need for healthy, thriving communities and the important role that municipalities play in delivering essential services to Yukoners. The territory’s eight municipalities are expected to receive a 10.3 per cent increase in Comprehensive Municipal Grant funding, for a total of $24.5 million in 2024-25. The funding will be transferred to municipalities on April 1, 2024.

The Government of Yukon awards 16 bursaries to Yukon students pursuing careers in health and social services

The Government of Yukon is committed to addressing the health human resources situation across the territory. As part of this commitment, the Government of Yukon has awarded 16 bursaries to support Yukon students pursuing priority health and social service professions. 

This year’s health bursaries were awarded to recipients pursuing diploma, baccalaureate and master's level studies in nursing, medicine, social work and community and rehabilitation therapy.

Bill No. 33, which amends the Registered Nurses Profession Act, received assent today in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. The amendment paves the way for flexible enrollment for registered nurses and nurse practitioners applying to work in the Yukon.

Government of Yukon passes the amendments to the Environment Act

Bill No. 28, amendments to the Environment Act, today received Royal Assent in the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

Amendments to the Act are required to fully implement Extended Producer Responsibility across the territory. The amendments to the Act help ensure that the Government of Yukon can establish an effective producer hierarchy, exempt certain producers from the Extended Producer Responsibility system and capture producers outside of the Yukon under the new regulation.
