The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Service NL, along with Kelly White, Executive Director, Coalition of Persons with Disabilities - Newfoundland and Labrador, will announce a new partnership to raise awareness of blue zone parking spaces tomorrow (Friday, September 12).

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will join public service employees tomorrow (Friday, September 12) at 10:30 a.m. in the Confederation Building, East Block Lobby. The Premier will thank the public service for the support provided by their work over his time as Minister and Premier.

Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

The Provincial Government is investing $282,000 to enhance fire and emergency services in the District of The Straits - White Bay North. The funding will be used for the purchase of a new rescue pumper truck for the Northern Peninsula Regional Service Board and firefighting equipment for the communities of Roddickton and St. Lunaire-Griquet.

Today the Provincial Government is remembering all those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and paying tribute to the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who answered the call to assist passengers stranded in airports across the province during that time.

Tourism, Culture and Recreation

The Rooms wishes to advise the public that the facility will be closed to the public on the evening of Wednesday, September 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to accommodate an event. As Wednesday is the day of the week designated for an evening of free public access, The Rooms will alternatively be open to the public on Thursday, September 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to provide an evening of free public access for the week.

Advanced Education and Skills

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, will attend a meeting of provincial and territorial Ministers Responsible for Social Services tomorrow (Thursday, September 11). The forum will take place 8:00 a.m. at the McDougall Centre, Calgary, Alberta.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, will be the keynote breakfast speaker at the 9th International Symposium on Oil and Gas Resources in Western Newfoundland tomorrow (Thursday, September 11) at 8:00 a.m. The symposium will take place in the Grenfell Room A at the Glynmill Inn in Corner Brook.

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, will make an announcement at the Flower’s Cove Fire Hall tomorrow (Thursday, September 11) at 1:00 p.m.

Environment and Conservation

The Provincial Solid Waste Management Strategy is the largest regionalization project in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador, with its goal to modernize waste management in the province by 2020. Today, the Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, provided an update on the ongoing implementation of the strategy.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development

Today, an investment of $7 million to further develop the provincial cranberry industry was announced by the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, and Senator Norman Doyle, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). The event took place at Berry Good Farms near Grand Falls-Windsor.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The Provincial Government is partnering with the City of Corner Brook to provide $18.8 million in cost-shared multi-year capital works funding for projects including street improvements, upgrades to the water and sewer system and new municipal software.

Child, Youth and Family Services

The Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, will speak at the five-year anniversary celebration of Key Assets Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow (Wednesday, September 10 ). The event will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Key Assets located on 120 LeMarchant Road in St. John’s. Minister Collins will begin his remarks at 5:30 p.m.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Health and Community Services and Minister Responsible for Aging and Seniors, will be the keynote speaker at the 39th Annual Convention of the Newfoundland and Labrador 50+ Federation tomorrow (Wednesday, September 10). The event takes place at the Marystown Hotel with Minister Jackman speaking at 10:15 a.m.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

Northern Lights Seafood will explore the viability of producing a new seafood product with support from the Provincial Government’s Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, today announced $39,000 to help the company research the production and marketing requirements, and the market potential, of producing half-shell frozen scallops.

Education

S&L Enterprises of Paradise has been awarded a tender, valued at $88,891, for a paving project at École des Grands-Vents in St. John’s.

Environment and Conservation

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Environment and Conservation, was joined by Corner Brook Mayor Charles Pender at a ceremony today announcing that the Provincial Government will provide $550,000 for phase two of energy efficient upgrades at the Corner Brook Civic Centre. The investment is through the Newfoundland and Labrador Green Fund administered by the Department of Environment and Conservation.

Innovation, Business and Rural Development: Research and Development Corporation
Natural Resources

The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) announced today an investment of $750,000 in support of a demonstration plant at Rambler Metals’ Ming Copper-Gold mine in Baie Verte. This demonstration technology has the potential to significantly extend the life of the Ming Mine beyond the current six years. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister Responsible for RDC, made the announcement today at the Geo Centre.
