From This Rock Culinary Tour Makes its Way Across the Island with Provincial Government Support

From This Rock, the travelling culinary tour which started in Port aux Basques on October 16, is drawing great crowds across the province with an average of 100 people at each venue. The tour ends in St. John’s on November 1. Guests are treated to a multi-course dinner prepared by a culinary team of some of the province’s best chefs.

New Regulations Expand Pharmacists' Scope of Practice

New regulations under the Pharmacy Act, 2012 will expand the scope of practice of pharmacists in Newfoundland and Labrador. The new regulations will allow pharmacists to administer medication by inhalation and injection, including flu vaccines. Further, the Provincial Government is making an important program enhancement by supporting clients of the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program (NLPDP) in accessing flu shots from their pharmacists free of charge.

Pilot Project Explores Potential for Residents to Increase Waste Diversion

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), in partnership with Product Care and the Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA), is launching a pilot program to explore the potential to divert additional waste from provincial landfills through one-day recycling events that allow residents to properly dispose of multiple types of waste at one drop-off location.

The Provincial Government is investing $300,000 in an after-school physical activity program, Participation Nation Unplugged, which is designed to provide school-aged children with recreational options that promote an active lifestyle and overall wellness. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, made the announcement today, in partnership with School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, at St. Matthew’s School in St. John’s.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association Canada Games Head Coach, Blair White, will be holding a regional Identification camp for the 2017 Men’s Canada Games program. This camp will be held at Corner Brook Regional High, Corner Brook on November 1, 2014. The camp will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This camp is open to athletes from the region who were born in 2000 and 2001.

More than $480,000 Supports Economic Growth on the Burin Peninsula

Two Burin Peninsula-based businesses are better positioned to improve their operations as a result of $488,333 in funding from the Provincial Government. Fortune Head Eco Friends Inc. and Grand Bank Seafood’s Inc. will receive funding to assist with operational growth and development. The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, made the announcements today in Fortune and Grand Bank respectively. Premier Davis was joined by the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development.

District of Ferryland Receives Over $225,000 for Firefighting Equipment

The Provincial Government is investing more than $225,000 to enhance firefighting capabilities in the District of Ferryland. The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and MHA for the District of Ferryland, have announced that funding is being provided for the purchase of a rescue vehicle and fire equipment for several communities in the district.

Public Advisory: Residents Warned of Black Bear Activity

The Department of Natural Resources is advising residents that there have been black bear sightings in the areas of Gambo, Hare Bay, Indian Bay, Traytown and Glovertown. Conservation officers with the department have placed traps where black bears have been reported and recently relocated a bear from Traytown to a remote area.
