Investment of Approximately $190,000 Supports Fire Services in District of Harbour Main and Bay de Grave Regional Fire Department

The Provincial Government is investing approximately $190,000 to enhance firefighting capacity in the District of Harbour Main and at the Bay de Grave Regional Fire Department. The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, was joined by Tom Hedderson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for the District of Harbour Main, and Glenn Littlejohn, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and MHA for the District of Port de Grave, for the announcement.

Federal and Provincial Governments Work Together to Help Apprentices in Atlantic Canada

The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Employment and Social Development, and the Council of Atlantic Premiers today announced that apprenticeship requirements in six new trades will be harmonized across the Atlantic provinces: carpenter, welder, metal fabricator, steamfitter-pipefitter, plumber and industrial electrician. This is in addition to work that has already started on the four previously announced trades: bricklayer, cook, instrumentation and control technician, and construction electrician. As a result, Atlantic Canadians apprenticing in these 10 trades will have access to consistent training, certification and standards, leading to more job opportunities and greater mobility while helping address skills shortages in this region.

Provincial Scholarships Awarded to Students Throughout the Province
Education and Early Childhood Development
More than $200,000 in Provincial Scholarships have been awarded to 201 recent high school graduates throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The scholarships, ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,500, are awarded based on public examination results and will help students pursue post-secondary education.
