Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be in Corner Brook tomorrow (Friday, October 13) to attend a dedication ceremony for two new Habitat for Humanity homes. Premier Ball will be joined by the Honorable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation and the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment and MHA for Humber – Bay of Islands. The event takes place at Corner Brook City Hall (Hutchings Room), 5 Park Street, Corner Brook beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will attend the official opening of East Point Elementary School tomorrow (Friday, October 13) at 1:30 p.m. Minister Kirby will be joined by Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary for Service NL and MHA for Virginia Waters - Pleasantville.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will join the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour, to announce significant funding to support apprentices and employers. The announcement begins at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, October 13) at College of the North Atlantic’s Prince Philip Drive campus in St. John’s.

Service NL

Flynn Canada Limited has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in relation to an incident that occurred in September 2015. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Division of Service NL.

Repair work is taking place on the Manuels Access Road between Peacekeepers Way and Easons Road.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will speak at a Dominion and President’s Choice Children’s Charity major gift announcement tomorrow (Thursday, October 12). The announcement will take place at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in St. John’s at the base of the children’s ship on the first floor at 2:00 p.m.

House of Assembly

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Speaker of the House of Assembly, announced today that the House of Assembly will reconvene at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 for the purpose of considering amendments to the Elections Act, 1991.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Provincial, federal and municipal governments are investing more than $10.1 million for a number of road improvement projects in Mount Pearl.

Health and Community Services

The media are advised that the proclamation signing scheduled for today (Wednesday, October 11) recognizing October as Autism Awareness Month has been postponed. It will be rescheduled to a later date.

Executive Council

The governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada today announced a combined investment of approximately $15.3 million for major upgrades to Route 510 on the Trans-Labrador Highway. The Provincial Government is contributing more than $8.1 million towards the work while the Federal Government is providing over $7.1 million through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects (PTIC-NRP).

Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for Mount Scio will announce investments in infrastructure for the City of Mount Pearl tomorrow (Wednesday, October 11) on behalf of the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment. Minister Kirby will be joined by the Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and His Worship Dave Aker, Mayor of Mount Pearl.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will speak at the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association’s Newleef conference tomorrow (Wednesday, October 11). The event takes place at the Holiday Inn, St. John’s, beginning at 8:30 a.m. He will be joined by Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation.

North Brook Bridge in the T’Railway Provincial Park will be closed effective October 16 for approximately two weeks while a section is replaced. During this time there will be no through traffic via the T’Railway between the Towns of Gallants and Black Duck Siding.

Repair work is taking place on the Team Gushue Highway between Outer Ring Road and Kenmount Road.

The Provincial Government today unveiled its new secure driver’s licence and photo ID cards which will help protect Newfoundlanders and Labradorians against identity theft, fraud and forgery. The new cards have multiple layers of security features which over-the-counter printing technology cannot produce, and also meet numerous industry and government standards.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Provincial Government, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District and the Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador are collaborating to provide professional learning opportunities on play-based learning for grade one teachers province-wide.

Health and Community Services

It will soon be flu season in Newfoundland and Labrador. To help prevent the spread of illness, free flu vaccination clinics will be held throughout the province once again this fall.
