The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Community Living has opened nominations for the 2018 Inclusive Education Award. This annual award honours a K-12 school for their outstanding efforts to develop and design their school environments, classrooms, programs and activities so all students can participate in all aspects of school life.

The Department of Health and Community Services advises the public that a resident of Nain has died and there is strong indication that the cause of death was tuberculosis (TB). The individual died on Sunday, March 18.

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will bring greetings at the Skills Canada Awards Ceremony in St. John’s tomorrow (Friday, March 23). The ceremony will take place at College of North Atlantic, Prince Phillip Drive Campus, at 7:30 p.m.

The Department of Health and Community Services is encouraging residents to be prepared and make sure they have adequate insurance to protect against the cost of unexpected medical emergencies while travelling.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will launch the next phase of economic development activity by the Cabinet Committee on Jobs for the coming fiscal year at a news conference tomorrow (Friday, March 23). The news conference will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association, located at 2 Conservation Place in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, and the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, joined Dr. Lloydetta Quaicoe, founder of Sharing Our Cultures, to proclaim March 21 as International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour is inviting input on the development of an Adult Literacy Action Plan. Public consultations were announced on March 9, 2018, and submissions are being accepted until April 20, 2018.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is reminding residents that the deadline for big game licence draw applications is March 29, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure timely processing.

The Provincial Government is investing $10.6 million in Municipal Capital Works as a part of its three-year municipal infrastructure program.

The Provincial Government has awarded two contracts for the review of the current implementation plan for the Provincial Waste Management Strategy to Amec Foster Wheeler and Maclaren Municipal Consulting. This work is expected to be completed by late summer 2018.

Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; Tony Keats, President of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador; and Jim Organ, Executive Director of the Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs, marked the contribution of the province’s Francophone and Acadian communities on International Francophonie Day today. This event falls within the annual pan-Canadian celebration - Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie which runs March 1-21 and is a time for all Canadians to come together to celebrate the French language and culture.

The Provincial Government is congratulating Liam Hickey from St. John’s on winning a silver medal in para ice hockey as a member of Team Canada at the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will take part in the closing ceremonies of the 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games tomorrow (Saturday, March 17) in Deer Lake. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex, 8 Crescent Street.
