New Mobile Crisis Intervention Teams in St. John’s and Labrador West

The Provincial Government along with health authorities and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are introducing a new policing model to respond to people experiencing a mental health crisis. Mobile crisis intervention teams have been established in St. John’s and Labrador West. The new policing model, called the Memphis model, involves a mental health worker and a police officer working together in the community.

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate is launching a comprehensive, independent Review of the treatment, experiences and outcomes of Inuit children and youth in the Newfoundland and Labrador child protection system. The Review will identify deficiencies, explore promising and best practices, and make recommendations for improved outcomes within an appropriate cultural context. The Nunatsiavut Government approached Child and Youth Advocate Jackie Lake Kavanagh to request her office conduct an independent Review.

Residents of Taiwan who come to Newfoundland and Labrador to live, study or work will now have their drivers licences recognized without needing to complete a written, visual or road test examination. The agreement also allows the same for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians living in Taiwan.
