New WHMIS Regulations to Come Into Force in December

Amendments to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulations have been published in the Newfoundland and Labrador Gazette. Workplaces falling under provincial Occupational Health and Safety jurisdiction must fully comply with the new provincial WHMIS requirements by December 1, 2018.
Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program Will Help Advance Industry Development

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, today announced that funding is available through the 2018-19 Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program to help existing farmers and new entrants improve the economic viability of the province’s agriculture and agrifoods industry.

North American Occupational Safety and Health Week Launched in Province

In recognition of North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week 2018 (May 6-12), Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary for Service NL, joined officials from WorkplaceNL, members of the local chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), as well as representatives from safety groups and the employer and labour sectors, to raise the official flag. The theme for NAOSH Week 2018 is Make Safety a Habit.

Forest access roads on the Hampton Highway, White’s River Road and Blueberry Pond areas are closed to vehicle traffic until further notice. The roads will remain open to snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.
