The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society has received $25,000 through the Provincial Government’s Cultural Economic Development Program to help offset festival production costs.

Provincial Government Increases Use of Direct Deposit for Payments

In an effort to process payments in a more cost-effective manner and to reduce the costs associated with cheque processing, the Provincial Government will increase its use of direct deposit and will phase out government-issued cheques by December 31, 2016.

Funding of Over $25,000 Supports Francois Fire Services

Through a funding investment of over $25,000, the community of Francois will receive a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with tracks to transport firefighting equipment, and two new self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs). The announcement was made recently in the community by Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune.

Public Advisory: Update Provided on Repairs to Placentia Lift Bridge

The Department of Transportation and Works is advising that repairs are continuing to the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge in Placentia. While that work is ongoing the bridge remains closed and vehicular traffic continues to be detoured to Southeast Placentia Road.
Shrimp Industry Produces Best Practices Booklet with $27,000 in Provincial Government Funding

Operators in the provincial shrimp sector will be better positioned to pursue best practices with the introduction of a new booklet supported by the Provincial Government. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced $27,000 today through the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program to assist with development of the booklet, which will provide product handling guidelines to all industry players.

Facilities in Springdale Receive Health Care Funding

The Provincial Government is providing over $870,000 to improve patient care and enhance long-term care services at two health care facilities in Springdale. In addition, a contract has been awarded for the continued development of the new health care facility being constructed in Springdale.
