The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Donovan Molloy, has released his Report A-2017-024 under authority of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015. A summary of the Report is included below.

Mr. Speaker, I had the opportunity last week to showcase our mineral exploration and mining industry at Mineral Resources Review, which is Atlantic Canada's largest industry conference and trade show, attracting approximately 700 delegates, exhibitors and visitors.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Honourable Perry Trimper, advises that the House of Assembly Management Commission will hold its next meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Provincial Government is following through on its commitment through The Way Forward: Realizing Our Potential to review municipal and environmental permitting processes. On Saturday, November 4, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, announced that the department is amending its municipal infrastructure policies to eliminate the requirement for municipalities to enter into Limit of Service Agreements.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will speak at the Mistaken Point Cape Race Heritage Annual General Meeting tonight (Monday, November 6). The event takes place at the Edge of Avalon Interpretation Centre, Portugal Cove South, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

In advance of Guy Fawkes Night on November 5, the Provincial Government is reminding residents to ensure that bonfires are conducted in a safe and legal manner.

Transportation and Works

Ferry users of the Fogo Island, Change Islands and Bell Island routes are advised of service changes beginning Sunday, November 5.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will bring greetings at the launch of National Skilled Trades and Technology Week on Monday, November 6. The event will take place at UA Local 740 Training Centre, 48 Sagona Avenue, Mount Pearl, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded that Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend. At 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, clocks should be turned back one hour.

Transportation and Works

The Provincial Government is inviting the general public to identify sections of provincial highways and bridges that should be considered for the second year of its Five-year Provincial Roads Plan.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, joins Sikh Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in recognizing Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh religion.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that Corner Brook Care Partnership has been selected to design, build, finance and maintain a new long-term care facility that will benefit Corner Brook and Western Newfoundland.

Colin Holloway, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Environment, will attend a meeting of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment tomorrow (Friday, November 3) in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

As part of the Municipalities NL Annual Conference taking place from November 2 to 4 in Corner Brook, the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will be joined by department officials to provide an overview of the action items outlined in the Provincial Government’s Way Forward on Immigration. Particular focus will be on the Regional Welcoming Communities Initiative.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased with today’s decision by the United States Department of Commerce that Newfoundland and Labrador would be excluded from any tariffs on softwood lumber produced in this province.

Natural Resources

The The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, today at Mineral Resources Review 2017 discussed recently released research by the Geological Survey that highlights the potential for new discoveries of gold and other metals in central Newfoundland. The data, available at: www.nr.gov.nl.ca/nr/mines/geoscience/publications/latest_pubs.html are based on soil samples collected from the Sheffield Lake, Springdale, Dawes Pond, The Topsails and Rainy Lake map areas.
