Today, Aug. 21, I received Prof. Bill Lahey’s report on Nova Scotia’s forest practices. He has completed a substantial report and I thank him for his invaluable work in leading this review.

Lands and Forestry -- NOTE: This release is on behalf of Professor Bill Lahey, project lead on the Independent Review of Forest Practices. An independent review of the province’s forest practices is recommending fundamental changes to the way forestry is conducted in Nova Scotia.

Energy and Mines -- Annapolis Valley residents will be encouraged to lace up their sneakers or ride their bicycles through activities supported by the province's sustainable transportation grant program, Connect2.

Energy and Mines -- Cape Breton students and residents will have access to more cycling infrastructure and multi-use path information with support from the province's sustainable transportation grant program, Connect2.

Labour Relations -- NOTE: The following is a statement from Mark Furey, Minister of Labour Relations, following today’s arbitration decision regarding the Nova Scotia Government and CUPE Local 1867, Nova Scotia Highway Workers Union. The decision can be found at, https://novascotia.ca/psc/public-service-sustainability-mandate/ . We welcome the arbitrator’s decision. It maintains our wage pattern, with a seven per cent wage increase over six years and provides the option for early payout of the public service award. This is in line with other recent settlements, including all other civil service employees.

Energy and Mines -- Nova Scotia homeowners can now save money on their electricity bills by installing solar photovoltaic systems on their homes through the SolarHomes program.

Nova Scotia Business Inc. -- Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) has announced newly approved productions through the Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund today, Aug. 14.

Fisheries and Aquaculture -- Nova Scotians can follow the work of the independent Nova Scotia Aquaculture Review Board, established as part of government’s approach to regulating the aquaculture industry, with a website launched today, Aug. 13.
